Shaleeta Washington is Counsel in Highmark Inc.’s law department, where she supports a wide range of areas including contract review and negotiation, West Virginia Medicaid, credentialing, fraud waste and abuse recovery, and member services. Dedicated to serving the community, Shaleeta also participates on the law department’s pro bono committee, where she spearheads the department’s Pennsylvania Innocence Project volunteer efforts. Previously, Shaleeta was the Assistant City Solicitor for the City of York, where she advised the mayor, city council and other city representatives on a variety of legal matters affecting the city. In addition, she has served on a number of community boards focusing on women’s healthcare rights and services, diversity and inclusion, as well as helping lower income families become self-sufficient. For several years, she also acted as the legal mock trial advisor for two urban schools in York and Harrisburg, where she mentored young students interested in pursuing legal careers.
Shaleeta holds a B.A. in International Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to graduating, she spent time at Maastricht University in The Netherlands in order to study international law and human rights. Following her undergraduate studies, she obtained her Juris Doctor from the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, where she was selected to the Order of Barristers and was named a Miller Center For Public Interest Advocate.
In her free time, Shaleeta can be found hiking with her dog, trying to figure out photography, or indulging in her wanderlust and traveling the world.
